Teaching from Space

Valley Christian Elementary School in Cerritos, CA and One Stop Richmond Hill Community Center in New York City were selected, as a team, to participate in a NASA Teaching in Space project on May 12, 2008. During this event students made a call to the International Space Station. This call, known as a downlink, allowed students to speak with astronaut Garrett E. Reisman and watch as he answered their questions.

NASA has never had a shared downlink where participation is from coast-to-coast. That made this event extra-special. It is also the first education downlink held in Southern California.

Pamela Leestma and Neme Alperstein are the educators responsible for this project. Through their diligence and their commitment to the study of space science, their students were able to become a part of history. Many other people have helped to make this event happen. Parents and friends enjoyed watching the event on NASA TV at www.nasa.gov on May 12. If you missed it, you can watch it here.
